Trudeau’s budget a letdown for Canada’s immigration system 

Ottawa, ON – Jasraj Singh Hallan, Conservative Shadow Minister for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, issued the following statement on the Liberal budget: “Justin Trudeau’s budget is a massive letdown. I have heard far too many stories from immigrants, their families, and businesses across Canada that our immigration system requires modernization. Unfortunately, the Liberal budget lacks measures that would make meaningful improvements to the immigration system.

“There cannot be a strong recovery without a strong plan for immigration. But due to Liberal mismanagement, backlogs continue to grow longer as family, spousal, and grandparent reunification applicants wait years to see their loved ones, employers are missing out on temporary foreign workers as COVID-19 makes their wait even longer, and thousands of foreign child care and home support caregivers have been waiting for years to even have their application processed.“What Canada needs now is a smarter, more compassionate immigration system that focuses our resources on making Canada a more welcoming place, full of opportunity and potential. “This budget fails to secure long-term prosperity for Canadians and people looking to come to our country. Instead of fixing the immigration system for newcomers and employers, the Trudeau Liberals have proposed record deficits, risky economic ideas, and more spending on Liberal partisan priorities. “Canada’s Conservatives will secure the future by investing in smart, efficient, and effective programs to improve the immigration system. We must remember that we are a country that is strengthened by our diversity and will succeed in the future because of it.”
