BRAMPTON- Regional Councillor Gurpreet Singh Dhillon expressed his appreciation following the joint provincial and federal funding announcement of $128 million, which will contribute to the construction of a new state of the art 400,000 square foot Brampton Transit facility in Ward 10.

The new facility will receive $69,912,000 from the federal government as part of the Public Transit Infrastructure Stream (PTIS) of the Investing in Canada plan. Additionally, the provincial government has confirmed an investment of $58,254,174. As a result of this funding, the City of Brampton will be contributing $46 million.

A new transit facility is crucial to Brampton in order to meet the growing population’s needs. This facility will be record breaking across North-America as it will be the largest of its kind and will eventually support a fully electric, zero-emissions bus fleet. Construction of Phase 1 of the facility, which will store 250 buses, and contain 36 maintenance bays will begin in 2022 and conclude in 2024.

“I am proud to have been a strong advocate for this facility since the last term of Council, and I am particularly proud it will be in Wards 9 & 10 where hundreds of well paying jobs will be created for our residents,” said Councillor Dhillon. “My commitment since day 1 has been to ensure my wards get the development it has long deserved. With this transit facility plus other business developments coming soon, Brampton’s east end is gearing up to be a thriving part of the city.”
