Region of Peel – Investigators from the Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau have arrested a 19-year-old man in relation to a homicide in the City of Brampton.
On Thursday, August 13, 2020, emergency services attended a residence on Treeline Boulevard in Brampton and located the victim, Sangita Sharma, a 56-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound.
As a result of a lengthy investigation, members of the Peel Regional Police Homicide Bureau identified Fiseha Girmay Habtegabir, a 19-year-old man from London, Ontario, as the alleged murderer.
On Friday, June 4, 2021, Fiseha Girmay Habtegabir was arrested, with the assistance of London Police, for First Degree Murder and was held for a bail hearing. He appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on Saturday, June 5, 2021.

Chief Duraiappah said, “Sangita Sharma’s death was the tragic outcome of a callous act of violence. It carried deep impacts on her loved ones and our community. While we are pleased to share that this arrest has been made, we believe there are others responsible for her death. We are committed to ensuring they do not escape that responsibility.”
The investigation is continuing to identify additional suspects. Police are still searching for a connection between the suspects in London and the victim in Brampton.
